Located at the north of Navarra, the western end of the Pyrenean mountain range, the Baztan Valley stands out for its idyllic landscape of green meadows dotted with ancestral villages and hamlets, for the softness of its climate, the gastronomy and its centuries-old importance as a historical and cultural enclave.
Cradle of the ancient Basque language, land of artisans, Cagots, indianos, stately palaces, noblemen, adventurers and smugglers, the so-called Navarrese Switzerland is home to natural treasures such as extensive beech forests, steep ridges, intricate ravines, crystalline streams, prehistoric stations and delightful corners, such as the secluded valleys of Aritzakun and Urritzate.
Regarding the natural and landscape environment, the Valley has been, and continues to be, synonymous with forests and large virgin spaces, with the Bertiz Natural Park being a clear example. It is, after the impressive Irati Forest, the largest and best preserved forest area in Navarra, and even in the entire peninsula.
